Subject: For those who missed Drumming at the Ranch
Well for those who didn't make it out to the Ranch this Saturday, you
certainly missed a good time. We had over fifty people in attendance, and
the diversity of those who attended was a wonderful addition.
First of all we had people from many parts of the state, from: Plant City,
St Pete, Jacksonville, Pompano Beach, Palm Bay, as well as many others.
In addition to some very tight drumming we were also blessed with additional
entertainment as well.
I would like to thank Lady Almathaea and the members of Cauldron of Fire for
gracing us with a fun and entertaining Full Moon Ritual, right up to the
begging from my dog Tarkus for some of the Cakes for the Cakes and Ale
portion of the ritual.
http://cauldronoffire.tripod.com/
Seawolf graced us with some wonderful poetry, which added to a spectacular
Full Moon.
We also had a special surprise with some people taking up the Fire Twirling
which is always a spectacular thing to watch.
Later in the evening the stringed instruments came out right about the time
that all the drummers hands started to hurt.... LOL
We had about six guitar players as well as a violinist, all of which put on
a great performance, singing some old songs along with some new ones.
There were so many great things going on that evening the food was great,
thanks sis for making enough soup to feed a small army. The Hot Broken Legs
and the Wassle was excellent at least from what I can remember of it, it is
all kinda cloudy right now.... LOL
But most of all I would like to thank Ruth and Jimi, for allowing us to have
this type of event at the Ranch, without them we would still be annoying our
neighbors. Everyone I spoke too was very impressed with the property, and
they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Thanks once again too all that came to the Ranch, and for those who were not
able to make it, keep an eye out for the next oppurtunity, hopefully it will
be forthcoming shortly....
check out some of the pictures from the Ranch here, more will be forthcoming when I finish the Melbourne Drum Tribe Website this week.

I like the idea of people writing their work shifts down on their festival
booklet. I've always done that, I write them right into the "event
schedule" in the back, and that helps me a lot. Also I wear a watch. :-)

We could always do the things that the teachers used
to do. Give out star stickers for those who show up
for and finish their workshifts. I know it may sound
cheesy but we could get a little more pointed with it
and include their names in a thank you posted in the
quarterly or at a village meeting on a board.
It makes more work but those that do their part will
be recognized for their efforts.
Just a thought.

Wow, lots in this one as always...
First, I like beer in super soakers, if ya' don't
mind. Corona with a twist
of Orange (yeah, I know, I am weird...)
Second, Tim shared the original "cow experience"
with me...and I am still
laughing...would love to see something along this
line start up again
...although I wasn't around for the original
version. But I do know that
leaving ritual circles is not acceptable, even to
defend one's livestock.
Third, also have experience in production of small
format publications, and
layout, during the real 'cut and paste" days, but
and like the other Debbie
(I too, go by a similar name on the out side) type
at a pretty good
clip...and do some layout on the computer, and if
there is one thing I have
learned over the years, one program is very similar
to the next and anything
can be learned. Wade, you have now gotten at the
very least two
volunteers...can we meet at Fires with those of like
minds, and discuss this?
Perhaps we could begin with a semiannual
publication? The move to a
quarterly? Mind is now racing backwards to cutting,
pasting, layout, hmmm,
and we don't even have to use that little black tape
that was such a
pain...oh, I mean challenge!
And Thanks yo Mino...
"Community" What does it mean? What is it worth?
What does it take
in order for one to function......and survive?
Forgive me dear ones, I quit preaching almost 20
years ago...so I'd do
better to just remember the crede of my initiation
which is: Honor all
paths, and do yer (censored) job.
We all need reminders...but I don't like
censorship...so just say what you
mean...oh, yeah, against the rules...LOL...
I have a dear friend who taught accounting...she
used to say about life...
"The value of anything is what you are willing to
give up to have it."
VALUE...we give up...maybe a few hours a year...that
is what we give up to do
community services and teach workshops. (But do we
really give up anything
when doing our community service?) And what we get
in return is something
that is invaluable...a stronger group, a stronger
family...so I figure that
we are making out like bandits when it comes to
giving 4 hours each
gathering, and what we get is a much more cohesive
family, one that is safe,
well-cared for, has children who have wonderful role
models, we are all
better educated on our Paths, and so many more "pay
offs" for a few hours we
give to OUR family/community. Not to mention we are
building a stronger web
of like minds...always connected to one another via
vehicles like this
e-group.
Mino, Cliona, Kehayke, Galwyn, Silver Wolf...et al
in the SW FL area...see
you Sunday...you all better have a stack of hugs
saved!!!
Blessings, and Light,
Tyla

Just a note, please help keep the digest easier to deal with by deleting all
but the topic line when you post. Sometimes we have to read/scroll through
three or four postings to just get to the point you are trying to make...and
sometimes I just miss it altogether...and no...that isn't a Senior Moment!
Just another idea...perhaps we could launch a "friendly competition" for
special designs for use at the various Phoenix Phyre events...like the
t-shirts. The Phoenix Phyre logo could go on a separate piece of jewelry,
and the different events could be represented on the front of a piece, with
the PP logo on the back, and the year. The winners could be awarded
something like a 1/2 price ticket for the event for which one's design wins.
Blessings,
Tyla

Bill Challenges Parents' Religious Rights
U.S. Newswire
2 Apr 10:40
Indiana Republican Submits Bill That Challenges Parents' Religious
Rights; Protects Government Officials who Impose Religion
To: National Desk, Religion Reporter
Contact: Amber Khan of The Interfaith Alliance, 202-639-6370
extension 103 or 888-941-9614 (pager)
WASHINGTON, April 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Legislation to "protect
religious expression," quietly introduced in the U.S. House of
Representatives last Wednesday, could threaten parents' rights to
direct religious upbringing, lead to pervasive religious
discrimination by government employees and spark possible hate
crimes directed towards minorities, according to The Interfaith
Alliance (TIA), a national religious organization dedicated to
promoting the shared values of religion in public life.
In a deceptive attempt to encourage and protect government
officials who impose their religious beliefs on citizens, Rep. John
Hostettler (R-Ind.) submitted "The Public Expression of Religion Act
of 2001" (PERA) to exempt state officials from penalties or
financial damages if found guilty of violating the First
Amendment's Establishment Clause. Originally introduced in 1997,
the legislation was re-introduced March 28 and referred to the
House Committee on Judiciary. PERA will weaken 42 U.S.C. 1983, the
strongest statutory remedy available to citizens challenging
unconstitutional actions of government officials, by offering only
injunctive relief in cases where state employees violate the
Establishment Clause of the Constitution.
"The effects of this fundamentally unconstitutional legislation
would be devastating, a parent's worst nightmare," said the Rev.
Dr. C. Welton Gaddy, executive director of TIA. "Instead of helping
parents protect their children, Representative Hostettler wants to
give government officials a green light to impose personal
religious beliefs without consequence."
"This legislation could protect government officials who promote
hate or condemn other religions as an expression of faith," said
Gaddy. "It will invite the type of religious conflict that
inevitably leads to violence and division."
Supporters of the legislation include leaders of the Religious
Right such as Pat Robertson, founder and president of the Christian
Coalition. Hostettler, an outspoken supporter of the Religious
Right, was elected during the 1994 "Gingrich Revolution." In 1999,
his voting record earned some of the highest marks in the house
from right-wing political organizations, including Concerned Women
for America, the John Birch Society, the Christian Coalition and
the American Conservative Union.
"It's clear that this misguided and unconstitutional legislation
is political payback to the religious conservatives who helped him
keep his seat in a tight 2000 re-election campaign," said Gaddy.
"Representative Hostettler and other members clearly need to hear
from the mainstream religious community about the importance of
protecting both religious liberty and the rights of parents to
guide the religious upbringing of their children."
TIA is alerting religious leaders and people of faith around the
nation to raise awareness about the dangers of this legislation. To

Founded in 1994, The Interfaith Alliance (TIA) is a non-partisan
clergy-led grassroots organization dedicated to promoting the
positive and healing role of religion in the life of the nation and
challenging those who manipulate religion to promote intolerance.
With more than 130,000 members drawn from over 50 faith traditions,
clergy-led local Alliances in 38 states, and a national network of
activists in every state, TIA promotes civility, mutual respect,
and cooperation in our increasingly diverse society.

five folks...are you ready to schedule a meeting of those interested
in helping with the production of the quarterly (or semi annual)

I sorta like the format that Circle Network News has...used to edit
one similar to this in the '80's.
Do we have any visual artists interested in producing drawings,
photos etc?
Hmmmm, we might win a Pagan Pulitzer!!!

Would that part of the form so when we are checked in
it could be filled in and also recorded on the typed
sheets. If the people at the front write it in and
make sure that its on the folder that each of us gets,
it would take a little longer to check in but it
wlould alow for better follow up.
